XDefiant is the latest in a long line of generic, free-to-play first-person shooters. The gameplay is fine, albeit a bit bland, but the time to kill is so fast that there's very little strategy involved in gunfights. I also ran into my fair share of questionable spawns, with enemies appearing right behind a corner near me. There's also the issue of imbalance, with one-shot kill sniper rifles and the flamethrower ability being prevalent in matches. That's to say nothing of the progression, which is tedious and grindy. Ultimately, it just feels like another half-baked live service game.
