I am not a Gran Turismo fanatic or a sim racing game fanatic in general: for the longest time, my experience with racing games was growing up on the arcade NASCAR games, Mario Kart Wii, and the worst game I think I've ever seriously tried to play in M&M's Kart Racing. Realistic racing games have never been my thing, but I LOVE this game.

Gran Turismo blends a sort of high-art charm with beautiful graphics and a smooth UI system that perfectly balances the art of the video game with the precision of handling quality motor vehicles. The amount of customization you can do in this game is simply unparalleled in any game I've seen. I downloaded a Lightning McQueen skin and used it for a good third of my gameplay. The soundtrack is smooth and relaxing, the tracks are fun and diverse, and the cars are wonderful. Being able to drive vehicles that I would only hope to one day experience in real life and even get a semblance of that thrill and enjoyment is a wonderful experience.

The online play isn't great (especially when you are solely playing on controller) and the cafe progression system gets a little boring, but this game is jam-packed with content and things to do, and even though racing is racing, I feel like this game would take a long time to get old for anyone, let alone someone who has grown up with a unique interest between racing, automobile history, high art, and creative design. Gran Turismo takes all of these and makes a wonderful product, and definitively one of the most realistic-looking and beautiful games I've ever played.
