What the hell happened??? After the charming and fun first entry of this series the sequel is a complete failure in almost every aspect, the only positives i have is the music and the character designs of Dante and Lucia, thats it.
The Environment Design, which i quite liked in the first game is completely gone in this, replaced with the most uninspired levels i had the "pleasure" to be walking through, from brownish grey city ruins to empty city streets between empty skyscrapers to industry halls with no sense of cohesion between all of that. I didn't even know why dante was in most of those places to begin with, which is another issue, this game has no story, just a bunch of events happening, with a dante, that doesn't talk and is just a blank slate. In the first game he wasn't the most developed character, a goofball more than anything, but at least he was something, not like this piece of cardboard with the same name.
The Combat System, it just doesn't feel right. The only cool thing is the wallrun ability and maybe the animations overall are better looking, but that doesnt help, if the fighting just isn't any fun. Enemies are dumb, just puppets to be hit by the player, while being no threat at all (maybe this changes with higher difficulties, didn't try). The combat speed was considerably slowed down, paired with arenas/levels, that are often too big and empty, it's just a chore to fight enemies in close range. Not that it matters, because your guns are just way superior to your sword anyway, doing way too much damage, and the pistols being able to infinitely juggle enemies in the air, you don't even have to launch enemies with your sword, no they just start to magically lift of the ground, if you start shooting them...
The bosses don't help much in that regard, most of which you just shoot to death, because its the most viable strategy anyway, the worst example being an infected chopper, right after i had the pleasure of fighting tanks. I dont know what happened, when they designed those enemies...
The upgrade system is worse as well, compared to the first game. There are multiple swords, the only difference between them being their range and nothing else, they all have the same moveset, and upgrading them just increases the damage. There's just no interesting choice making, unlike the first game, where you could unlock new moves for each weapon.
I also played the Lucia site of the campaign, which was slightly more fun, because she's more agile in combat, but it didn't help much.
This game just baffles me tbh, i don't know how this came into existence.
