I have an interesting history with this game, I first played it around launch, and while I liked the first 10-20ish hours but eventually I found it to be a drag and stopped playing.

Once I saw how much shit the game was getting from fans I decided to jump on the hate train too, thought of it as a disaster and an awful game and that was that...until this week when I decided to just play it and try to finish it for once, and slowly I realized I didn't really hate the game.

I actually quite like it, sure it's bloated as fuck, every assassin's creed game is if we're all being honest, but it has something some games from this series lack (Syndicate...) which is soul, granted it's still a modern day ubisoft game so y'know...there's not THAT much soul in it but the game does come off, to me at least, like everyone enjoyed making it and there was a lot of passion poured in it.

The characters are all for the most part pretty entertaining to watch and interact with (every mission and cutscene in which Sokrates appears in is 10 times better because of it tbh) and the story overall was one of the better ones in the series, not as great as the Ezio trilogy and unity but also not as boring as 3 nor as lazy and just bad as Syndicate.

Is it an Assassin's Creed game? Maybe not, but who cares? So what if it's not AC 2 again? I personally didn't mind the change much, didn't we all agree 4 was great because it spent most of its runtime not being an AC game but a pirate game? This game spends it's time being a mercenary game essentially and I like that about it personally.

It knows it's not AC and it has fun with it and I respect that. But also granted it is more grindy than it should be and the enemies are very spongy, not as bad as it was in Syndicate but not too far off from it either, still not as bad as people say it is. I feel like people are really reaching when they say that it’s ONLY grindy so you buy boosters, like guys I’m not gonna say ubisoft is beneath that, they really aren’t, but also it’s not really to that point from what I’ve played, I easily beat the game without buying any booster or anything in around 70 hours, which yes is a LONG time but for me it remained entertaining for that duration of time an didn’t really feel as long as it actually was. Going to one mission sometimes easily turned into a 4 hour journey where I forget about the mission after 3 minutes and spend the next 4 hours doing every side quest in every area I come across and getting every synchronization point in set areas.

I liked the stealth, the fact you can't just one shot everyone by doing stealth makes it more interesting and challenging imo. And with the special enemies that there are in every enemy location that can't really be one shot unless you're a level or more above them makes you plan more and try to get all the small enemies first before going after the other ones.

The parkour is fine, yes it is too simple compared to every other AC game from before 2015 but it makes sense given the setting of the game. I like the fact you can climb everything even if it's all just holding down shift and w. Combat is pretty varied depending on what types of weapons you use and what abilities you equip n shit, it didn't really get stale for me in my playthrough so I can't complain too much.

This game also has the best side quests in the whole series and I don't understand what game people who hate this game have played when they say all the side stuff is just filler, there's a lot of interesting quests, some quests start pretty simple, you go to some random person and they tell you to go inspect a house and you end up finding out that...(spoiler alert ig) one of the character's father was a man we were just after and killed in the story, and you're presented with the choice of either telling the person this information alone or in front of everyone, risking them not trusting her anymore. Sure the choice is a no brainer but it is an interesting choice nonetheless. Also all the minotaur shit in Dinkte Plateau is kinda really funny but also pretty interesting, I suggest you go there and do some quests there, they're worth it.

Overall, it’s not the best in the series by any means, but it’s also not the worst and I feel like most of the hate is just people hating it because it’s not much of an Assassin’s Creed game and because other people said they didn’t like it so now everyone has to act like it’s horrendous when it really isn’t. I suggest giving it another chance with an open mind and with purist thoughts put to the side, series of games evolve and change over time and while change isn’t always good, it’s also not always bad and this game is a good example of that.

edit: the microtransactions still suck though, I didn't feel the need to buy em but they are trash

good game but damn that ending was BAD

Worst cutscenes of all time, the fucking glitches are super annoying (I feel threw the map 9 times cuz the game only works when its installed on your ssd, otherwise get ready to fall through the map cuz it can't load it properly), most boring and mediocre driving, fuck this game, its almost as bad as payback, how the hell is that possible?

This has to be the most generic game I've ever played, I can excuse bland shooters if they are fun but man this game is so boring and by the numbers and takes itself soooo seriously, ugh, there's like one decent mission in the game which I thought was not atrocious but the rest of it is so baaaad. This 2010 game looks like a late gen xbox game how tf? And the fact you are stuck at 70 fov and the aiming is way too sensitive just makes the game worse than it already is.

Yeah it was really broken at launch and even now there's a few bugs every now and then but honestly this game, safe for a really shitty ending, is really fun. I enjoyed the combat a lot and the guns were pretty cool, I love how you can turn your guns into other guns, shit gets wacky and it ends up being more fun than it has any right to be tbh.

I played the PC version 😔
