Death's Door boldly set out what it wanted to do as semi-Dark Souls-y, isometric action-adventure and accomplished above and beyond my expectations. The combat was challenging enough to always keep me on my toes yet sufficiently forgiving for me not to fret too much if I ever was taken down. I really appreciated the reasonable number of shortcuts the game provided, so progression would never be hindered.

The strength of Death's Door, in my opinion, is its simplicity and focus on quality. Instead of throwing in the kitchen sink, like many action adventures try to do, the game passively led me through beautifully designed environments. It taught me its mechanics in the best fashion via gameplay. The music was sublime, and the visuals were nothing fancy yet gorgeous.

The only drawbacks were a few freezes and occasional audio glitches. Additionally, while the final level isn't lacking in quality, it felt somewhat unfulfilled and unrealized with the lack of deeper backstory that the last two areas had. However, overall, I heartily recommend Death's Door to anyone who wants a cutesy and lite Dark Souls experience with fantastic atmosphere.
