The perception of walking simulator games fluctuates about as much as a graph displaying predator and prey population counts. The sense that when there are games that have bad narratives they are perceived as extra bad for not having any gameplay to apologize for it. Luckily Edith Finch actually is a game with gameplay, it's just not filled with the typical design that most games are filled with.

And if you think it's not a game I beg you to please explain how using every element a game could have to supplement and enhance the narrative that is present does not still make it a game.

Small footnote: This is one of the few games that I can catch attention with by saying "It's that one game where you play as a dying baby"
