Genuinely felt like Anton Ego tasting ratatouille and this game brought me all the way back to that same feeling I had when playing Gears 2 & 3.

Gears 5 was a significant direct improvement from the kinda underwhelming Gears 4. The story was excellent with tons of cool little details and nods to the original Gears trilogy and some self-aware in-jokes regarding the disappointing Judgement spin-off. A game that stands out in visuals, mechanics and writing; with excellent multiplayer modes and practically endless fun. My only critiques are that the achievements are insanely grindy and the Insane difficulty is ridiculous and unfair most of the time.

Gears 5 is a welcoming callback to the original trilogy and belongs in the top 3 games of the franchise.
