The spectacle of excess fuelling Desperate Struggle is exactly what No More Heroes avoided in the first place ; it's vulgar without being subversive and cynical without the tender humor to match.

sudas absence from the helm is really noticeable in the games that he's not strictly writer/director, and they often feel like pantomimes of his more immediately marketable qualities when theyre not being creatively stifled. my favourite instance of this in nmh2 is when the games narrative framing device is inspired by a wonderful scene in paris, texas, but because it wants to keep its narratively unsatisfying and by and large thematically irrelevant twist close to its chest it can think of nothing new to do with the idea but to have the camera lecherously focus on definitely-not-sylvia's boobs to obscure the identities of both parties involved
