‣ Thoughts: I rarely dip my toes into horror games, but when I do, I always end up playing the most horrifying ones. Mortuary assistant has a very simple gameplay loop. Prepare some bodies, find the ones who have demonic presences and burn them. Sounds simple right? Well, I wish you could get to that goal without being scared shitless. Everything here is randomized. The timing of jump scares, the locations of them and even sigils that you must figure out are different each time. This both provides great replay ability and lack of help you can get which means you are on your own. Sitting in a closed building that has just a few rooms is also horrifying, because the demon gets all up in your face and there’s nowhere to run. Everything being randomized fits the theme of this game really well and all the scares don’t feel cheesy. You are always vigilant, looking out for him, checking corners and that really staggers how fast you solve the problem. All in all, this is a great horror game. Mortuary assistant has its junk, but overall, the experience is both disgusting and great. The well programed jump scares make you immersed and terrified.
