Village strikes the perfect balance between survival horror and action. It's tense and legitimately scary but it also knows when to let loose with some great gunplay. To be honest, RE7 was too scary for me and too reliant on survival horror and running and hiding for my taste. Still a great game, but the best entries for me in the series mix survival horror and action (other than the remake of the original, which is a survival horror masterpiece). Village also mixes the campy and self-serious aspects of the series well and, though I feel like RE lore may be holding the series back a bit at this point, I was satisfied with how it was incorporated in this game. This is right up there with my favorite entries in the RE series.
