As a player who’s already a big fan of the base game, this DLC is truly special and adds much needed mechanics and content.

I’ve always loved Cyberpunk 2077 for its flexibility in gameplay, choices with remarkable writing, the ominous vibe in a futuristic dark setting with one of the best soundtracks that I still listen to almost 3 years after release. And with the 2.0 patch and Phantom Liberty Expansion this feels like a wonderful and fresh start. I won’t talk much about what the 2.0 patch adds exactly since I’ll save that for my base game review. All I’m going to say is most mechanics were either changed or reworked for the better along with many other improvements. The new district of Dogtown is a great new addition for story, lore, and expanding more on certain characters from the base game. There’s a new mechanic that now allows you to shoot from your car or add mounted weapons such as machine guns or rocket launchers. And luckily, CDPR adds gigs where V can rob cars and make good use of these new mechanics. There are new gigs to take from Mr.Hands which were worth while for me to take my time on. There also PLENTY of new iconic rewards to collect if you’re interested. You also get a new Relic Skill Tree which gives you incredible exploits for your cyberware which is so much fun to mess around with. The gameplay has been improved but overall my V was still a walking powerhouse that was pretty OP. I must confess I didn’t start a new play through for this DLC because I actually don’t have enough time to start over again with the amount of new games releasing recently. So I decided to play with a V that 100% did everything in the base game. Gameplay has lots of exciting gore and action like always and I honestly don’t really get tired of it. Something CDPR did better in this Expansion is they made consequences more impactful for gigs and I’m so happy to say that. There’s a graphical and visual improvement. I honestly don’t see much of a difference other than certain characters getting a visual upgrade. Other than that Cyberpunk 2077 still looks as stunning and impressive as ever.

The story and writing for Phantom Liberty is great and fits in well as a side story for V. The “spy-thriller” writing was handled very well. The new characters all have their motives and it was very interesting so see them revealed. Reed is an interesting and mysterious character even though I didn’t generally agree with his ideas and choices. Songbird easily is the most sympathetic character for me. She shows the struggles of being used as netrunner, and in a lot of ways she really did remind me a lot of Lucy from the Cyberpunk Edgerunners anime. That’s just my personal opinion on Songbird since I know there will be mixed opinions on her. There’s other characters like Alex who I thought was just okay, we have Myers who in my opinion is arguably the most evil person in this expansion, and we have Kurt Hansen who basically the main antagonist of this Expansion and did well on his role of the story. We also have returning characters like Johnny Silverhand who I’ve always loved interacting with, Mr.Hands who is easily my favorite fixer in Night City now, and El Capitan who becomes a really good and friendly character, especially for a fixer. And the choices really had me thinking hard, I loved thinking carefully of my actions when they matter most since it really does have me questioning my morals. And for Phantom Liberty, it most definitely is important since the choices that are made are debatable on which is the best choice. I truly believe that all choices made in this expansion are justifiable for what you should choose. The story is fantastic and I loved the closure you get for this Expansion. The only thing I didn’t like from this Expansion story wise was the new ending. It felt rushed and unsatisfying, not necessarily an ending I hate but not the best ending in the game, okay at best. Overall doesn’t really bother me though since this is an ending you can miss based on choices you make during the Phantom Liberty storyline.

It’s a real shame this game is now coming to an end, but as someone said in the base game “everything has it’s end” I can say that I’m truly amazed and satisfied with my journey with Cyberpunk coming to an end. Of course I will continue to play since I love Cyberpunk 2077 to death. CDPR deserves a huge pat on the back for delivering one of the best DLCs I’ve played in my life. I will continue to follow this universe and I can’t wait to see the future holds with Project Orion.
