While the mechanics haven't aged well, especially when the game demands a lot from you, the concepts and ideas are all incredibly inspired and original, even 17 years later.

Best of all? The writing almost entirely holds up. It's clever, snappy, and the characters are lovable. Yes, there's a few casual slurs dropped, but that's 2005 for you. If you can push past that, the writing is extremely rewarding and helps balance out the clunkier gameplay moments all the way through the story's end.

If you've got the patience for old mechanics, I can't recommend Psychonauts highly enough.
