Lots of normal discourse with this game! I will be ignoring all of it because I do not believe most takes on this game are done by serious people.

Last of Us Part II like it's predecessor before it, releases at the end of it's consoles lifespan. Its a case of Naughty Dog just absolutely T-Bagging all first party devs in terms of graphical fidelity for the console. I will note, I played this on PS5 so on top of it looking absolutely gorgeous it ran buttery smooth.

I'll get the story at the end and I'll be keeping spoilers light. Last of Us part II's gameplay is actually under appreciated. I was expecting the game to be boring and out of date like I had heard parroted for the past 2 years but I think people are absolutely insane to say this. This game has one of the most fun stealth and combat systems Naughty Dog has ever put out. The guns feel awesome to shoot, the sound has a great umph to it as well. The violence in the combat makes it feel very primal.

This game is violent it is not for the faint of heart. It's completely valid if it's why you are hesitant to play. Its visceral and made me sick to my stomach multiple times in my play through, but if they cut out the violence in this game it would actually ruin it. Still this game is fun to play, and it isn't what the reputation say it is, where it's a "movie game" where you just move up and do some gameplay just to watch the cutscenes. This isn't God of War. There are environments to explore and in them really funny, heartbreaking, and scary stories to get from them. Bottom line it's a survival game, and with it I think the fun of the game comes from playing at higher difficulty where supplies are lower and you need to get creative with materials you have to get through the combat. If you play at an easier difficulty your going to have a more boring time, that's just the facts of it.

Last of Us Part II has a issue with it's story, but it's not the games fault. Since there are areas where the game is extremely progressive, a very loud minority got triggered by it and took over the narrative. I'm going to be honest though, if your too fucking spinless and weak to deal with completely normal things like the concept of a muscular woman, you shouldn't play this game.

In an interview for the Last of Us show, one of the writers stated "last of us is about how love is extremely powerful, and that's a bad thing." It sounds cheesy and corny, but using our thinking skills you can see how that works with the first part. Joel would do anything to protect Ellie, even popping a guys knee cap off. I think this ethos carries on to the story of the Last of Us Part II and goes even further.

The core center of the last of us part II is about that, and it's also about a lot more. It's about conflicting views of the characters, about cycles of violence, about repentance, about hatred, about prodigious, forgiveness, humanity, etc etc etc. It's about a lot it's beyond the scope of a letterbox review. On top of it being about a lot, it takes a lot of risks with how it dos the presentation of the story. Theirs a moment that can either make or break the game for you and it's why it's so controversial. I just ask that you stay open minded, trust the game and I think most people can say it sticks the landing.

I think it's a masterpiece and look forward to the next part if it happens. I think it closes the chapter for some and opens new chapters for others and i'm excited to see where it goes no matter what.
