It’s peak

Symphony
this shit set a precedent and one half of the reason metroidvanias as a genre exists, it’s a piece of history and one that I feel like I can say is perfect
Alucard as a protagonist and his relationship with the castle and how everything intertwines creates something magical

Overture
The castle just feels fucking good to go through, it’s got the resident evil feeling of by the end of the game knowing it like the back of your hand and how you interact with every minute hallway

Sonata
Alucard is a joy to control, it just feels fluid, it feels nice it has this connection and game feel that’s just perfect, if only he knew how to go faster than a light jog.

Coda
All that to say combat just feels good, connecting, responsive it’s just fucking fun to play and fight and explore through this sprawling maze to find power ups that all feel useful and a genuine part of the arsenal that you consistently use
There’s a reason this game is ranked among the greats and inspired so many, it’s so damn good

Spoilers from this point on

Aria
I didn’t know how I’d think about the upside down castle segment as I didn’t like it in bloodstained but here it felt good tbh, not as good as the first exploration of the right side up but it felt nice to play through this warped variant of this place you’ve come to know so well
Especially when it’s the place that’s the most fucked up and the most evil monsters and bosses dwell, it justifies itself and doesn’t come off as just lazy padding.
