Wanting to get through the 3 great pillars of the NES, I was realy looking forward to Metroid. Unfortunately, even with guides, it's a bit of a pain to get through.

Unlike Legend of Zelda, I haven't realy finished it nor do I think I ever will. Back in the 80s this must have been amazing but time hasn't been too kind. Even though the original Zelda is still very playable and enjoyable with guides, Metroid starts feeling like a shore after the first hour.

It's easy to get lost without a map and the design isn't intuitive enough to guide you towards progress. Since the space theme is inherently claustrophobic, this doesn't realy allow for the breath of exploration in Zelda.

However, this game deserves many props for trying to bring exploration to platforming and it's Giger inspired aesthetics.
