The first two chapters made me feel like this might join my list of favourite horror games. Detention's blend of historical fiction and horror creates an eerie and grim atmosphere that scared me in a way I wasn't expecting. The gameplay is simple but does its job, with one or two puzzles more complex than the rest.

The last two chapters, however, changed my opinion. It's still a good game that I recommend for fans of the genre, but the story takes a tumble after a certain point and doesn't recover. Not only it tries to encompasses more than its scope, ending it up with a muddy last act, but some of the decisions are questionable to say the least.

Considering it's the first game of an independent studio, I'm confident Red Candle Games will learn from its mistakes and produce great games for the years to come.
