Capping at about 8 hours of playtime to finish the main story, animal well is unlike any metroidvania I've ever experienced. No combat to speak of, and you have to rely on your own mind and wits. Beautiful, serene pixel art visuals and a foreboding, creepy atmosphere lie in wake as you try to piece together what it actually all means. Some of the smartest puzzles I've ever seen in the genre, and even the audio design of each area you visit was extremely on point. It feels like there's way more to unpack in the post-game. I can't say too much without spoiling anything, but this is a masterclass of a game, and everyone should experience it. Congrats to bigmode on their first release, they really knocked it out of the park.
