After having perfected it, I must say that I've grown to appreciate a lot of what the first Portal did to puzzle games and just games in general. Portal is an inventive twist to the FPS genre that places you in a seemingly pure and uncontaminated science facility, in where everything in the atmosphere just screams loneliness back to the player.

This loneliness, and the fact that there's not really much alive out there other than the turrets talking to the player, makes for an intriguing yet relaxing and concetrated puzzle-solving experience, it's almost zen in its own way.

As like the sequel, I also have a sort of story with this one, not that big but I do remember being absolutely boggled back in the day with the Portal Gun and its effects, with me seeing it all the time in pop culture (e.g. the classic Portal Gun mod in Minecraft by iChun), this really just spoke to me back in the day. With my Xbox 360 and a fresh copy of The Orange Box I would just go in blindly to play my very first playthrough of the game, thinking I was really smart for being able to get the Portal mechanic the very first time I was faced with it.

Truly a game to remember, thankfully its sequel kinda improved on everything it set out to be, but Portal will never be forgotten ever, it's revolution for PC gaming was just that good.

...And for the 100%, damn those "least steps" challenges. Source doesn't know how to count footsteps.
