The best NES Final Fantasy and it's not even particularly close. The combat feels more refined, the job system is a lot deeper than the one in FF1, the music is even better and the areas are a lot more varied. It's disappointing that it's a step back in terms of story (which I still don't fully understand because it's told so poorly) and characters, though.
