Superliminal is a game that inspires the simple, childlike joy that a book of illusions or a funhouse used to bring. It is a slim experience, but one that will constantly bring a smile to a player’s face. The game rapidly burns through new ideas that constantly plays with preconceived expectations. As soon as a player begins to become comfortable, it shakes up and subverts what came before. Granted, the puzzles often feel as though they could be further developed or made more intricate from the simplistic forms found in game. Further, its attempt at a profound message only partially lands by the end and its aesthetic strays too far into knock-off Portal territory. But those drawbacks cannot sully the simple joy of encountering all of Superliminal’s spectacle. And at about 3 hours in length, it is a pleasant palate cleanser for anyone to experience with a memorable final stretch.
