hoooooo boy I do not like this game. I realize this is a really unpopular take but this game just loves to waste my time, which is ironic given the game's title. First off, the levels are poorly designed. Cheap bottomless pits placed everywhere, really stilted and awkward platforming that completely interrupts the speed based "GO FAST ALL THE TIME" gameplay this game has going for it, and completely breaks the pace of the stage in half (and most of the time these are very abrupt so they flow even less well than you would think just from that description alone), the stage gimmicks are hardly ever present making most of these lame stages blend together in a pile of mush, and when they are present they absolutely blow (like the rockets in Dead Line or the...autoscrolling section in Mirage Road), the game often halts your progress and forces you into these tedious enemy rooms where you need to kill all the enemies on screen to proceed (and oftentimes enemies come in waves so you're forced to sit there and wait for another group to spawn) and overall I just don't think the gameplay is engaging. I much prefer when Sonic games have a more platforming heavy focus or have an excellent blend of platforming and speed, but with Rush it's speed or nothing else. This further emphasizes the issue with how most of these levels just sort of blend together and don't really stand out much on their own. Worse still, this game has some of the worst boss fights in the entire series, and you're forced to play the game TWICE just to get to the true ending. Sure the stage order changes around but it doesn't at all help that you're still playing the exact same stages all over again, and fighting the same awful bosses all over again. The true final boss isn't even worth doing anyway so this is overall a waste. Visually it's...average. It tries to blend Sonic's 3D model with 2D backgrounds and enemy sprites and it works...fine? I guess? Nothing really amazing looking. The music on the other hand is bar none the best thing about this game. It's probably my favorite Sonic OST out of the entire franchise, it's just too bad Hideki Naganuma funky hours had to be surgically attached to this utter bore
