Before I say anything, I need to preface this by saying do NOT get the PC version. It is genuinely one of the worst PC ports of any game I have ever played. The keyboard controls are unintuitive and the game still uses the Xbox 360 prompts regardless of me using the keyboard controls and mouse so memorizing which action did what was rather confusing, and the game's script is locked to the framerate. Meaning if you turn off Vsync (which you're encouraged to do since the game is locked at 30 with Vsync on and it has horrible input lag) then certain events break and the game becomes softlocked with invisible walls blocking you off. You need to fumble around with the game's inner workings to get everything working at 60fps, it's an absolute mess. Anyway, onto the actual game.

So this is my first experience with Dead Space. I played Dead Space 2 before it and loved it so I was always wanting to give the first game a try, and yeah it's pretty good. It's just...not really as good as 2 is. Everything is slower and clunkier compared to 2 which I guess some people might prefer to heighten the "horror" aspect of the game, but I don't know, I still retain that Dead Space can't really do horror very well. I mean, I love that they try to do it and it pays off with great atmosphere and setting, but the necromorphs are way too over exaggerated in how they attack you and constantly flaunt about hogging the spotlight (there's one in particular that's incredibly fast and when it gets close to you it vibrates and shakes continuously, it's just the goofiest looking thing). Dead Space 1 also has the misfortune of having too many of its locations feel really samey and repetitive aesthetic wise, and I get why this is, but still, it makes the environments feel that much more dull. Overall the combat is still immensely satisfying and there's plenty of secrets to uncover. The antigravity sections I'm not a big fan of though, as you basically have to leap in one straight direction from wall to wall and cling to it instead of the full 360 degree movement 2 provides. I get sequels usually improve on all fronts so this is to be expected, still not at all a bad start and I would definitely recommend starting here if you haven't already.

I have to counter your thoughts on the PC port, as it worked flawlessly for me -- although using an adaptive sync display helped a lot for sure, since v-sync is definitely borked, and should be turned off. Otherwise it ran great on 1440p @ 165Hz.

But yeah, m+kb support sucks, this one should be played with a controller.
