Pretty good game overall, but after replaying it I now have a better grasp on why I prefer Doom Eternal over this. For one, I’m not a huge fan of the more open intricate, mazelike design 2016 has. You end up seeing too much of the same area too often, I much prefer the more linear design Eternal has. Straight point A to point B with arena fights, no nonsense in between with still plenty of room for areas and alternate paths hidden with secrets sprinkled throughout. Also the added movement and abilities as well as the enemy weaknesses made for more engaging combat compared to the “just shoot everything” approach 2016 has. It’s still fun don’t get me wrong, but being able to instantly stagger an enemy or disable strong attacks by attacking it in a certain way will always be more satisfying. That and all the weapons in Eternal were immensely satisfying to use, while in 2016 a majority still are but there are weapons that I never touch ever again like the really lame starting pistol which I’m still not really sure why they bothered to give it upgradable attributes if it’s gonna end up being bad anyway. I think a few of the major bosses in 2016 are better than Eternal’s though. Overall still a good game regardless
