I don't consider this to be a particularly scary game at all. It has great settings and a nice atmosphere occasionally but is ruined with cheap jumpscares, monsters that are way too eager to strut about in the spotlight and try way too hard to scare you (and are subsequently obsessed with hiding in the same looking vents to bust out of over and over again), overuse of children's playrooms and nursery levels to farm poignancy points and really nothing else, the gore is so over the top that it's kind of comical, the stasis and kinesis powerups further accentuate this, you get the idea.

However, while I don't think this game is particularly scary, what it absolutely excels at in is just being a damn fantastic video game. The combat is super satisfying, all of the weapons you obtain are crazy overpowered and are an absolute delight to use. The main gameplay of shooting, sawing, or blowing off the limbs of necromorphs to kill them never gets old, and throughout the game you can upgrade weapons to deal even more tremendous amounts of damage. The antigravity sections are really fun too - you get to fly around in jetpacks and try to solve puzzles with your kinesis or engage with weightless combat against necromorphs that cling to walls. There are sections later on in the game that get even crazier.

Overall I think this is a game series that thrives more on the action element rather than the survival horror element. I know that's basically what Dead Space 3 is so I'm very curious to check it out to see what it has to offer. Regardless, this game is still a blast
