Played co-op with my girlfriend.
WHAT IF THERE WAS A OPEN-WORLD ONE LEVEL 3D MARIO? That’s Bowser’s Fury. It’s a pretty big map where you just wander around collecting “Cat Shines” to get into boss fights against a gigantic Bowser.
You choose the order of islands/levels you want to play in order to get these “stars” and then after some of them you get into the CAT MARIO X BOWSER KAIJU BATTLE. That part is pretty fun, but collecting all the cat shines is even better.
It gets addicting, you want to free all the lighthouses and shit. You do a little bit on one island, then get back to an old one and boom it’s all different and now there’s a new cat shine to unlock. It’s a seamless, addictive gameplay loop that just grabs you and makes you keep playing. The islands and challenges are all super fun, creative and well designed.
The co-op aspect isn’t so well flashed out, 3D World’s is way better. But that’s mostly because Bowser Jr isn’t so exciting to play with. That being said, playing games with my girl is always fun and it was great teaming up to get some of the Cat Shines. It would’ve been a lot harder and less exciting to play by myself for sure.
The presentation and music is also flawless. I haven’t played much 3D Mario, but now I can’t wait to play some more! Incredible short and fun game.
