Super-Scaler Racers

Super Scaler is a term coined by Sega to describe their hardware and games that simulate 3D space through the use of resized and scaleable sprites, though the term's easily applicable to any other brand's games, too. The tech used to achieve scaling varies by platform: Many arcade games resize the sprites on-the-fly, while console games on weaker processors have a batch of sprites for each pre-determined distance from the viewport. Some games may even use both approaches; using sprite batches to save on loading information for large sprite images when only their small/mid versions are needed. And lastly, resizing can be achieved by collapsing the tiles that make up a sprite into itself - crushing the sprite to simulate resizing without actually shrinking the tiles.

Note that these are distinct from Mode 7 racers, as M7 uses an occupiable X/Y/Z space simulated through 2D sprites, while super scaler racers use linear paths, and your vehicle's turns merely adjust your position relative to the road's X width.

Driving games with non-racing objectives (Roadblasters, Lucky & Wild, Chase H.Q.) have also been included.
