This game is everywhere in those retro arcade plug'n'plays and portables and shit, and that gave it a bad taste in my mouth for the longest time. But honestly, it's a pretty great time when you get past that shovelware-ish aura that surrounds it.

Arcade and Genesis versions are action games with a similar game feel to Castlevania and Ghosts N Goblins, though with more freedom of movement and better jump height. It's really satisfying and has very tightly-designed levels and pacing. The bosses are mixed bag, though - They're FUN to fight, but they deal insane damage and will fuck you UP if you don't time your moves perfectly. Some of them feel borderline luck-based, to be honest.

The SNES version tweaks around the structure and game feel to be more like a console adventure platformer, and the results are just okay. All the levels are doubled in length and the charge shot's been removed, among many other changes. It's easy as SIN compared to the arcade version, and that's fine tbh. I like the idea of taking this arcade-style game and converting it to a more comfortable, relaxing platformer. But once you get 2/3rds in, it just gets too slow and too tedious. Game also runs pretty choppily and feels kinda shoddily made.

Both versions are cool in their own way, but I think the Genesis/Arcade version is the way to go for sure. Just avoid the Johnny Turbo port - it has input lag.
