Pokemon Main Series Ranked

Nothing here!

The best the traditional Pokemon formula can get. They took an already great game and improved on it in every way. They did't need to include pokeathlon, safari zone or platinum's battle frontier but they did. Absolute GOAT
Only including new Pokemon makes you feel like its 1998 and you're playing Red and Blue again. Best region, Pokemon's interpretation of NYC is incredible and the seasons are gorgeous, the most aesthetically pleasing Pokemon game.
This is how you breathe new life into a franchise, the core game play loop is so satisfying and addictive, plus it doesn't hold you back like Sun and Moon or Sword and Shield. Made me catch pokemon and methodically work on my pokedex during my play through which is something I never do. If you've dropped the franchise you owe it to yourself to play this one.
Truly feels like the end of an era, this game is stuffed with content. But including all the Pokemon from the beginning of the game ruins the magic, probably hits different if you play it before Black & White.
The best retro Pokemon game, and probably the most accessible of the gameboy games. I play through this one every year and even with the limited pokemon selection I still find new ways to play through. The nostalgia hits hard for me with this one.
Ruby and Sapphire are already great. Battle Frontier really elevates this one. Sadly the only one I don't own so I haven't played in like a decade.
Something about Sinnoh just feels... Cozy, maybe it's the music or the more rural setting, it's always nice to come back to. Battle Frontier isn't Emerald's but it's still pretty good.
GBA Pokemon has a really unique vibe, I love the colors and the music. RS is super nostalgic for me. Real OGs remember that this was the first dexit. First gen where I finished my Pokedex even tho you needed like 7 different games to do it
Faithful remake of Red and Blue, probably a little too faithful, would have been nice if the dex included later evolutions like HGSS does, and not being able to trade with RSE until like 90% of the game is finished and after an annoying side quest. Still the best way to play kanto though.
Episode delta is cool & flying around on Latios/Latias is super fun. Honestly only feels like a bad remake because we were so spoiled by HGSS
A million great ideas buried under a layer of slimy jank. Thankfully cause of the nature of modern games, its problems can be fixed. If they somehow pull this together it could be one of the best games in the franchise.
It's stupid easy even for a pokemon game and the evil team makes no sense, but megas are the best gimmick Pokemon has ever had, and competitive in this gen was so so fun.
I like some of the ideas here, and catch combos were a blast to build up, but it's so easy and Pikachu is so OP it almost becomes boring. I still kinda hope we get a Johto one.
There's really no reason to play this when Crystal exists unless you really, really like Mareep or Girafarig.
Since it's biased on the anime makes this one feel really unique and its cool you can get all of the starters. Pretty dated, but cool as a kind of time capsule
Kinda dated and kinda jank, but it was programed by like two people. Only really worth checking out for historical reasons.
Super faithful remake of Diamond and Pearl but without it's engine issues, but absolutely nothing added, makes ORAS look like it's packed with new features. Tries to replicate the DS art style but it dosen't quite come across correctly.
Has the same problems as sun and moon bit without the story or unique setting. The wild area really saves this one and Scarlet & Violet do that better. DLC is mid, but at least they were smart enough to build off of the game's strongest features.
Somewhat fun for the first play-through but it grinds to a halt every two minutes. It's a shame cause I love the story and the setting, and the totem battles are a nice mix up from gyms, but it's exhausting to play
I like parts of the remixed story, and some of the Totem battles are pretty tough, but it's still Sun and Moon. They could have improved on that game's issues like platinum did but didn't, missed opportunity.
DS growing pains, feels like you're playing a game through mud. Absolutely no reason to play this when Platinum exists.
