Excellent follow-up to the rest of the series.
I really enjoyed the hell out of this game, and getting to explore some of the larger world outside of the Moscow Metro was hella fun. I also really loved the group dynamics and the game did a really good job of making me care about Anna and her well-being. You can literally sit for hours and listen to the crew yap at you about their lives and what they think about the situation - which is something I've always loved about this series.
I will say that the ending is a little lacklustre in comparison to the previous two entries, but the overall journey was very enjoyable.

Surprised they did a good job with Anna considering how awful and rushed the romance was in Last Light.

Yeah, they really took the time to flesh out the characters in this game. Especially in the down times where you can just sit down and chat with the characters in your crew, it really does a lot to make you care for them.

Well, I was admittedly going to put off playing this game because I was not a big fan of the predecessors. They kept Artyom a silent protagonist did they not?

Yeah, he is. You only hear his VA in the loading screens between chapters, same as the previous games.

Then how is a relationship even shown between the two if he's not even reacting to her?

Their interactions together. There's a large portion of the game spent just sitting with the other characters in a mini-hub between chapters and listening to their thoughts and worries.

Obviously I'd have to see it for myself, but I just don't know if a passive reaction can generate something authentic. The problem for me is it's un-immersive to have someone saying something and your character not responding. That's one of the reasons they gave Isaac a full voice in the Dead Space sequels and remake.

Fair enough. I don't mind the "silent protagonist" thing at all, I grew up with these guys lol
