I have played this game since a month or two after it launched. And honestly? I don't think I'll drop it any time soon.

I think this game actually manages to do the whole gacha thing in a way that feels (mostly) fair. It's got good daily login rewards, how passively you can play the game and still make progress, how easy it is to get materials, and fair drop rates on banners (mostly). You can pretty easily get to the level most veteran players are at without spending a single cent, even if it will still take you time to get there. The game practically encourages players to play it passively or just for 5-10 min a day, which is something most other gacha games don't do.

On top of all that, the pixel art unit visuals and animations are very well done, all the details for each unit and their moves are shown in-game, and the music - oh man, the music. Honestly I'd say the soundtrack for this game is probably one of the better FF soundtracks, and that's saying a LOT.

But one of my favorite parts of the game is the battle system. It takes the traditional turn based combat and both simplifies it by having both sides do all their actions at once during their turn, and expands on it by allowing for complex party setups that can cover specific weaknesses while exploiting the enemy's as much as possible. Some of the trial fights (at least when they launched) are legitamately some of the best executed, unique, and meaningfully challenging JRPG fights I've seen.

That being said it does have it's fair share of problems though. Due to the nature of how it's content releases, often times units get released that are just straight up useless. Sometimes the team behind FFBE does drop the ball for certain events or collabs, and there's currently a ton of stuff that was promised that just was never delivered.

Overall, I still think this game is great in spite of its flaws.

7/10
