Square Enix proves once again that they just know the secret to making really good classic RPGs. This is about as classic of an RPG you can get. A party of characters with their clear roles. A big journey where they travel the land. A huge, compelling story. Turn-based combat. And, you know, starting out as puny average joes and killing a dark, evil god at the very end. But most good games focus on one aspect of games really well to excel, and for this game, it's the artstyle. It's absolutely gorgeous. So much so that Square Enix is now using it for so many of their other games. It really works, it's that good. Playing this game is just a treat for the eyes, everything is beautiful. But it's not perfect, it has its flaws. I believe a game can have no flaws and be perfect, but for me, the one issue I have with this game is that the characters are only compelling on their personal stories, and they barely interact with each other. They're not compelling as a team. They don't have too many interesting relationships or dynamics. It's kind of funny how little they actually talk to each other throughout the game, like they're not even friends but just some random ragtag group that decided to travel together for no reason. Other than that, there are so many aspects of this game that just make it a very memorable experience. It will always have a place as one of my favourite RPGs.
