This is the first Dragon Quest to truly put emphasis into the story and characters and as someone who truly values that aspect of JRPGs above all else it makes it by default the most interesting one in my eyes so far.
The game is funny and heart wrenching all at once while having some very creative ways to tell a story through gameplay with limited text (shoutout to Torneko's chapter).
