Despite playing Fallout 4 two other times, I've never played any of its expansions past Automatron. This set some interesting expectations for Far Harbor since my opinions on Fallout 4 have been crystalizing since this latest playthrough. We won't get into the full details of Fallout 4 until I - at least - finish the main narrative again, but I've become pretty comfortable with calling more "modern" Bethesda RPGs the "stale bread of video games."

Upon playing one the stalest of the offerings in Bethesda's RPG catalog, Far Harbor only further cements that feeling with all the expected suspects: a rather nonsensical narrative, bland mission designs, the lacking of real RPG mechanics to make any of this interesting, so on and so forth.

Far Habor does become worth it in the exploration department, which I have greatly discovered is Fallout 4's biggest strong suit. Putting in the effort to carve over the Far Harbor map nets some great rewards Including great weapons, armor, and the occasional "decent" quest. Unfortunately, you have to slog through a lot of Fallout 4's worst habits to reach any of the decent stuff within this expansion.

Still, Far Harbor could be seriously worse, yet it remains a waste of potential.
