Damn good game. While I feel it doesn't quite compare to games like Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2, Shovel Knight, and especially Cuphead in terms of a throwback game this is still a commendable effort.

My gripes with the game mainly come from the writing. Being extremely "meta" with your dialogue can really overstay its welcome and while it is funny every now and then this game can get very eye-rolling at times with some of the humor. It more often takes me out of the game rather than keeps me immersed.

Also, this is one of those games that seemingly doesn't know how to end so Ending Fatigue really starts to settle in the further you go. True, there's some epic moments that go down near the end but I will admit to being kind of tired by then and just being relieved the game was finally over.

With all that said, the gameplay is smooth as butter, the music is fantastic, and the art direction is top notch. There may be a few things that hold this back from a 5/5 but I would definitely recommend this game to anyone looking for a solid throwback to a bygone era of gaming.
