Coming into this game late, as a Yakuza fan, I really wasn't feeling this one to start with. I still feel like making this series into a turn based RPG game is weird. I'll try to explain this better with this little review.

I took so long to start playing this because, well, I hate change. I love my beat em up inspired Yakuza gameplay, and to have this new main entry not have that. Just feels wrong to me.

Is the game bad? Far from it. This is honestly a top tier RPG. It played well, I was finding myself strategizing before fights, which party members to take into battle, all the usual rpg things I do.

The new cast grew on me, I really fell in love with them. I think going forward, Ichiban has a bright future as a character. He seems more fun loving, and it fits the insane happenings in this game with the rpg switch.

The story however, I found myself falling off. If you check my log dates, I started in March of 2023. I got halfway through the story and I got insanely bored. It's a complaint I have with a few of the later Yakuza games, but this one really liked to repeat itself and story points over and over. To the point where you are just sitting in cutscenes, waiting for the game to finally move on to the next plot point. So I got burned out, and turned it off.

A few months later, I come back into the game, get through to where the story finally picks up, and I was getting hyped for the ending. They can make such a good story work, it's just they seem to be having this issue where the middle is padded out.

That's a personal taste thing I think.

Overall, game is pretty good. Looking forward to seeing how the next RPG style game goes and what changes they make.

Also I had a few moments of legitimate happiness this game gave me. I can't ask for anything more than that.
