I kinda don't care about the story. This game is best when you're just exploring trying to find any secrets you can, but the inclusion of a bunch of npcs and a quest log which I don't think were in Ori 1 kinda goes against the whole metroidvania experience. Combine that with boss fights and chase sequences that get kind of annoying and this game just isn't really for me. Fun to complete for sure, but the process to getting to the postgame feels like kind of a slog. I get why it's so loved, I loved ori 1 too, but there's too much changed imo.

Your feelings perfectly match my experience with WotW. I love just about everything in Blind Forest. Its save system, story, visuals, chase sequences, and especially Bash cement it as a unique game even today. Despite WotW carrying these elements over to varying degrees, they were placed into a framework that was less unique. Specifically, it added things that didn’t need to be added, such as the increased focus on combat. The overall execution may have been solid, but I have yet to see anyone who declares this game a masterpiece to explain what it brings to the table compared to pretty much any other Metroidvania available at the time, let alone its predecessor.
