Ghost Trick is one of those beloved cult classics that had been sitting in my backlog for ages, and this new remaster gave me the perfect reason to give it a try. I’m really glad I did, because the game definitely lives up to its cult status. Considering this was helmed by the creator of the Ace Attorney series, I shouldn’t be the least bit surprised at how good it is.

The story is a fascinating mystery that’s also surprisingly very emotional. The early chapters of the game are a tad on the slow side, as the game slowly unfolds its mystery and the appeal of the characters hasn’t really been established yet. Once you get through those early chapters, the game really picks up steam and becomes incredibly hard to put down as you put the pieces of the mystery together and learn more about the characters. I ended up blazing through 3/4s of it over the course of two days. Since it’s such a story focused game, I don’t want to say too much, as you should know as little as possible going into it. Just know that it's a really good story, and that alone makes it a must play.

The gameplay of the Ghost/Trick sections is pretty good. I wouldn’t exactly say that it blew me away, but I think that the concept of playing as a ghost who can possess and manipulate objects within its short reach is really clever and novel, and it leads to interesting and satisfying puzzle solving. The puzzles are never all that obtuse. I did have to look up one or two of them, but it's not too hard to figure almost all of them out on your own.

Everyone that has been singing the praises for Ghost Trick all of these years was absolutely correct. I think it's a great game that everyone should try at some point or another, especially if you enjoy Ace Attorney or any other story-based, narrative heavy games. The characters are endearing, the mystery is gripping, and it ultimately winds up being an emotional experience that’s hard to forget.
