Ah, the last game in the "announced for Switch in January 2017 but didn't come out until the 2020s" trilogy, alongside No More Heroes 3 and Shin Megami Tensei V. Thankfully of them, Bayonetta 3 was truly the best for last.

Bayonetta as a series serves as a reminder that there is no such thing as too ridiculous, and that if you think you have something good made, go back and do it again and push it further. Pushing it further should be seen as a principal in writing things like this too, not just animation.

Anyways, the game itself is solid, I'd say even if not a little below the first entry, but better than two. I see people complain about the gimmick levels but idk I like them. Bayo's combat is as smooth as ever and the summons only add to the experience, much better than say V from DMC5.

What takes me out of it a bit is the exploration segments and Viola's. Breath of the Wild is a game I haven't played but don't like in the sense that I'm tired of seeing its influence everywhere. Not as bad as say SMTV but I did get a bit tired of feeling like I needed to look around everywhere rather than taking in the scenery or solving a simple puzzle to get to the next combat area. The only other downside is I get Viola is supposed to be underpowered for thematic purposes and I like her as a character, but she feels too underpowered to the point where using her can be frustrating. I utterly despised both instances of "Witch Time Damage Only!" when playing as Viola because it's so precise it's better to just mash and pray you get the parry. Cheshire not being controllable doesn't help either since he's generally better than anything you can do.

Jeanne exists and is kinda simplistic (I even got a Pure Plat for one of her levels!) but I kinda smiled because I saw her first segment and went "HEY WAIT A MINUTE THIS IS ELEVATOR ACTION" showing that me going back and playing random ass early 80s games paid off.

The story forced people to take off the Yuri goggles even if it was kinda cheesy but the plot is never the focus outside setting up for hype setpieces in hack n slash (it's a much cooler title than Character Action) games and in that regard it does its job well, even if I rolled my eyes at the mention of "Multiverse" because I am tired of those too and wish it felt more like actual universes rather than moments in time (the first two being asian for some reason didn't help either) but it was an excuse for many different environments so it works.

It's not a perfect game, but it's a solid game and a solid entry in the Switch library.
