Spoilers: None. I will allude to the games narrative but never saying what I'm talking about
So, I love Star Wars. It's been an obsession of mine from the first time I ever watched my dad play the PS1 Phantom Menace game. It's a hidden love I have going as far as extended universe content. So I am already an existing addict of every story beat, sound effect and music this franchise offers.
Jedi Survivor is a Star Wars entry I never thought would live up to it's original conception. Fallen Order was a surpise hit from Titan Fall developers Respawn and somehow, they really have done it again.
Gameplay:
This is outright the best part of the entire game. I cannot express my absolute love I have for the fact in this game, you do not lose your powers like all sequels (Hello God of War 2) In Survivor, Cal has kept every move and ability he earned in the first game. This is no longer a Jedi on the run, this is a Jedi fighting back with all he has mastered.
In an incredible feat, they actually grow his kit out even more and in so many ways. My favourite by far being, different light sabers equals different moves.
It isn't just ONE lightsaber, it's all varieties of sabers you unlock throughout your journey. The last two you unlock, being my absolute favourites. The fact they made a lightsaber fast, a different one heavy is genius and a great way to gameify lightsabers.
Even the parkour and platforming in this is way better. It feels endless with so many ways to approach the large open planets and even the smaller ones.
Respawn have easily created the best feeling gameplay of any Star Wars game I've expedienced.
Narrative: NO spoilers.
It's predticable. Painfully predictable to the point I actually can't fathom how they managed to make a game narrative beyond obvious.
Though this was a hilarious problem to occur for myself, I do think the narrative is enjoyable. It didn't grab me like Fallen Order and it certainly loses a lot of momentum at some points but having a couple of days to think on my feelings, I do think that this absolutely feels like a middle movie/game in a trilogy.
It's hard not to see it like that and it has a lot of narrative parallels for another certain middle movie in the series.
It's characters are fantastic, dialouge is brilliant and captivating but ultimately the overall plot is just kinda passable.
Nothing exciting BUT nothing bad either.
Epic moments:
LIGHTSABER DUELS ARE ALWAYS AWESOME.
Holllllly. This game gets a whole point for its incredible cinematography. I have never felt so much awe as two light sabers epicly hit one another in intense moments with fantastic movements.
They nailed every aspect of the duels and I just wanted to point that out
Additional notes:
Sadly PC users were given a broken ass game that has left everyone in that community soured. I had maybe ONE bug that required a simple restart. Other than that and a few FPS drops. This game ran like butter on the PS5.
Overall:
I love this game. It's a fantastic sequel and plays perfectly. The narrative is passable and gets the job done while remaining entertaining.
This is no Last Jedi but it's certainly no Empire Strikes Back.
