I got into this series with the RE4 remake that came out last year , and something i noticed while i was playing THIS game was just how limited i felt.
RE4 gave me an insane amount of freedom, which i IMMEDIATELY took for granted when i started playing RE2.
But then I realized its all in service of creating this absolute sense of helplessness and absolutely is an intentional game design choice by Capcom.
RE2 makes you feel so useless in everything you do. You cower in fear as the horde of unkillable monsters break down your doors as your left with three bullets that are made of puddy, tremble at the thought of not being able to make it out of the shit hole that is Racoon City, and HAUL ASS WHEN YOU HEAR THOSE BIG ASS FOOTSTEPS.
All of it is in service of creating this haunting aura that I dont think a video game has ever made me feel.
The story isn't pulling any punches either. RE4 wasn't looking to make any type of an "engaging" story,l. It has one, but it is certainly not its strong suit. This one is all about the story, and what makes you keep pushing throughout your playthrough. Its still a bit basic with the overarching message of " the government is pretty fucked up we should do something guys" but its characters really help make it feel real.
I think its safe to say that im becoming a fan of this series!
