It breaks my heart, but this game kind of sucks.

Objective things out of the way first: This is a terrible port. Depending on your hardware the game may be unplayable, and while I didn't experience nearly as many issues as a large part of the playerbase did, I did have several crashes during my playthroughs.

Subjectively: This is a 2010 RPG, and it shows. The story is alright, and the voice acting is excellent, but the gameplay really sucks. To get the true ending for the game you need to replay the second half of the game at least three times, and to get a new ending added in this version of the game you'll need to replay a chunk of the first half of the game after getting the original true ending.

All told, I would say at least 25 of my 40 hours with this game were spent playing through content I had already played through. That is a lot, and in my opinion it's not worth it. You'll spend around 6 hours per ending replaying content you've already seen to get about 20 minutes of new stuff. This is, frankly, unacceptable levels of padding and I cannot recommend anyone suffer through it. If this is your first look at the Nier games, go play Automata. If you've already played Automata, maybe just watch a playthrough of this one.
