While Sonic Mania was a game that is a celebration of 2D Sonic, this is just another 2D Sonic. While the story have some cute moments and it’s nice to play as Amy, none of the game really stands out as exceptional. But if there was one thing that will keep me from returning to this game, it’s the final boss fight! Trying to hit Dr. Eggman’s robot with the missiles was alright the first two times, it took multiple attempts until I read a YouTube comment that told me that I have to look at the background to look for its location, and it was a nasty surprise to learn that it was just the first phase, before I inevitably died and the irritation began anew! When I finally beat him, I thought to myself, “Finally!” not “That was fun!”, which is definitely not what I want from a 2D Sonic game.
