Six years after its release, I've finally beaten this game. I really should have done it years ago, lol. I'm not sure if this is my #1 3D Mario because it's been a while since I played Galaxy 1 and 2, but Super Mario Odyssey is undoubtedly a strong contender. It easily boasts the best gameplay in a Mario game for me. The movement is incredibly satisfying when executed well, and speed runs of this game absolutely impress. The creativity oozing out of every pixel is a blast to experience. It's a continuous flow of creative ideas, resulting in some of the most enjoyable game and level designs in Nintendo’s catalogue.

The capture mechanic and Cappy are brilliant concepts that lead to even more creative gameplay scenarios and movement mechanics. These could easily be expanded upon in a sequel. When it comes to collecting moons, some are a bit lazy, but overall, collecting them hasn’t grown old. It remains satisfying and addictive. However, I'm aiming for 100% completion, and I'm not there yet, so my opinion on moons might change.

A fantastic flagship title for the Switch, although not as revolutionary as Nintendo’s other flagship title, Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey is a masterpiece for this franchise and 3D Collectathon Platformers. It brings 3D Mario back to form, recapturing that pure fun and magic that you can only get from a Mario game.
