Mention DMC 3 to any devotee and watch as their eyes light up, their bodies start to animate wildly and a wellspring of jovial passion cascades over their speech of loving admiration. After this moving testimony, ask for their thoughts on DMC 2 and recoil in horror as all emotion abandons them and the blood drains from their face, leaving behind a vacant and pale visage while they recount sickening tales of a game permeated with bugs, glitches, dull levels that confusingly branch out and twist on for miles; giving the illusion of freedom, when really every path except one leads to more bugs, pathetic battles, wimpy boss fights and pointless excursions with no reward. Ceaseless enemy hordes that offer no challenge, consume exorbitant amounts of time and can be shot with a thousand bullets, eventually soaring into the heavens should they dare to enter Dante's line of sight. Scouring for items, in order to fight bosses possessing a ridiculous number of health points, who never hit you once because the developers forgot to program in some decent AI. As more and more energy is expended detailing the atrocities of DMC 2, you can feel your soul gradually leaving your body and you have to end the tirade. It's the sinister feeling all DMC 2 "fans" know too well.

How dare you slander this masterpiece of a game. I'll have you know that Devil May Cry 2 is the epitome of storytelling and combat in a video game. The infested chopper boss fight encapsulates this perfectly. The infested chopper boss is the single greatest boss in all of video gaming. Devil May Cry 2 is already known as one of the greatest of all time (GOAT factor = high on this one), but the infestation that plagues the cities of Devil May Cry 2 allows for an extremely emotionally-complex character set. The infestation is a manifesto of our society and the zombie-like enthusiasm we take in our militarism, which is a great moral leap backwards. It spreads to the masses, and the military continues to kill. In that sense, the Infested Chopper boss fight is something more. You fight it once and it takes forever to beat. This mimics the reality of persuading a military enthusiast in real life - it takes forever. Then, the more you fight the choppers, you realize that the mission of beating them all is impossible. It is a grim fate that only Devil May Cry 2 can convey accurately. In other words, the infested chopper is definitively the single greatest boss fight in gaming and represents all of society's fears, which tells many stories which are incomprehensibly deep.
