played it going in underleveled on purpose and it was fun as fuck, really hope the remake has a hard mode of some sort

still the fucking best

Haven't tried it but there is a romhack called Mario RPG Armageddon. It's the same game but rebalanced to make it a bit more difficult. Also has a Hardmode variant but I hear that one is ludicrously difficult.
