Wow! This was really great! A fantastic sequel to a classic trilogy that keeps the core addictive gameplay whilst invigorating it with new mechanics that give it a much needed modern feel.

It feels great to play, there’s tons of content and replay ability, new playable characters like Dingodile, Tawna and Cortex really shake things up, the level design is as beautifully and meticulously crafted as ever and the introduction of masks and their level bending powers was a great addition that never once feels gimmicky.

If there were flaws, I’d say the last two worlds and their stages were insanely difficult to beat to the point where I had to turn the game off several times in order to stop myself from getting angry because I was dying so many times. Sometimes the difficulty bordered on ‘unfair’ at times due to the multiple amount of contraptions that I had to try and process and solve at the same time.
I’d also say that although it’s great there’s plenty to do, it did feel a tad overwhelming with the sheer amount gems, relics etc. I won’t lie; it slightly put me off from attempting to 100% the game.

Otherwise, I had an absolute blast. Definitely the biggest surprise of 2020 (both in terms of its announcement and the fact it’s genuinely a great game).
