Prototype is a very good foundation, its just too bad the dev's didn't even get close to utilizing it. The main draw, the evolutionary powers you get, are really neat and would seem fun to use. They are not, they all pretty much suck because the enemies in this game are either fodder, or insane constant hitboxes. A lot of the Minibosses/bosses just punish you for being too close with insane damage AOE's, and guess what, most of your moves are melee based, so why use them? It always just seems better to grab a helicopter, tank, or missile launcher and just shoot at things from a distance. The Devastation moves are also insanely strong, but they are tied to you being full health, which fucking sucks with the enemies I described, or what I'll say in the next paragraph.
Another problem is you are constantly taking damage and there almost no way to avoid this. Trying to heal back health is also way too hard to do. I think you should get I-frames when you are absorbing enemies for health, but you constantly just lose health WHILE you are attempting to regain it.
The final boss is probably the most piece of shit thing I've fought in a while. I literally dont understand how to fight it without grabbing a helicopter that flies around and just shoot at it. The dev's obviously dont want you doing that because they put turrets all around the air carrier you fight on to shoot you down, but they just dont wanna shoot. Dude does way too much damage, leaves no oppurtunties to heal, and damage him with your attacks is impossible. Also he has devastators like you, and the one that has a huge AOE around him can one shot you.

So yeah, I think this game has a really fun base that just got fucked over.

i think you're just upgrading the wrong abilities and focusing too much on defense and safe poke attacks without any room for actual offense. either that or you're just not using powers properly. that final boss in particular is pretty damn easy regardless of your methods - blade charges, throwing shit with musclemass, and tendrils are all equally effective strategies. his devastators are a non-issue because the game literally slows down to warn you before they fire off. if anything they just make him more vulnerable once you're out of the way

dodge rolling and air dashing are also both effective at avoiding gunfire/rockets. consumption having i-frames would make everything way too easy. if you need a quick heal and there's a lotta shit going on, just kill big enemies like hunters or tanks and snag the health drops. grabbing soldiers and running up buildings with them in hand helps too

lastly shields are super helpful and can sponge up a good amount of damage before breaking. armor i found a lot more niche however but it's good if you wanna steal a tank or something without getting pumped full of lead (not that you should because tanks kinda suck)

I did tend to musclemass throw shit, and do the blade air attack, and i usally just spammed ground slammed with the hammer fists.
Maybe consumption shouldn't have i-frames, but at least some damage negation.
idk I think the game is good, I just really dislike the enemy design.

I didn't really have these problems in Prototype 2.

tbh i didn't find hammerfists very effective in the lategame unless there was a really tall building near to scale up their damage. my go-to for tanks was the charged heavy blade thing - that oneshotted tanks easily

armor is also good for cutting damage taken while consuming

honestly as i'm playing prototype 2 right now i'm feeling the more streamlined gameplay to be more hurt than help. hard mode doesn't even stack up to this game's normal difficulty. but i did only just get the shield so idk maybe it picks up more

Yeah Prototype 2 is more streamlined and I did enjoy its gameplay more, but I also lamented its not the same thing as Prototype 1. I could feel the soul in P1 while in P2 its less there.
