I didn't think I'd like this game at first, to be honest. While the death of Joel was to be expected, I still felt it could've been executed so better (pun intended.) Not to mention the piss-poor attempt at making me feel empathy for Abby, and the bland "revenge bad" theme didn't really vibe well with me. I feel the story is this game's weakest aspect, and a lot of the newer factions, and characters are so damn forgettable. The gameplay loop did start to become repetitive but the Island section, reversed my fatigue pretty quickly. The Fuck Fedra section with Ellie and Dena exploring the open-ended area is another highlight for me. I wish we had more sections like that in the game, with their conversations easing the tension, and just going around into optional places just to explore things.

Story aside though, this game is impressive especially for a PS4 release. Despite the gameplay receiving minimal additions, they do make a big difference in how to handle certain scenarios imo.

In conclusion, I don't think this game is bad despite how much of a nosedive the story takes in quality. It most definitely isn't a masterpiece either, delusional TLoU fans will try their best to make you think otherwise.

I do think the story does make the overall package worse but at the same time this game is so much fucking fun compared to the first. Definitely interested to see where Naughty Dog will go from here.

I totally agree. The gameplay is top notch, especially in Abby’s sections. I’ve never been much of a Naughty Dog guy, but I do wanna check out their other stuff.
