Played it to completion, did almost all tasks, got all the treasures, and played around with Mercenaries (which are FUN AS ALL FUCK in this one!). It's a good game, great even, for the one single playthrough, but I will never replay this or go for higher difficulty completions. The reason is simple: while I think Remake 4 is graphically better, it has more dialogue, context, cutscenes, and development for almost all characters. And they added a couple of things that were not in the original (not a fan of most of them, like the shooting gallery or the Ashley playable segment). But the bottom line will remain to me the fact that the original plays better. The enemies are "spammed" less because you don't have the knife parry to defend yourself which evens out to way better and less dragged-out fights, the devs were way more careful when placing objects, enemies, and creating the playable space in general. I had this bizarre issue where for the first half of the game I would often run around with 25% HP with maybe a single green herb holding out for a red, but at some point in the castle heals started dropping like fucking crazy and I was walking around with 3 full heals ALL THE TIME until the credits rolled. What happened to the famous adaptive difficulty? Surely it's still there, it was there for REmake 2, and now the difficulty was all over the fucking place. I never died for like 12 hours, and then was stun-locked to death in the room with two Garradores like 6 times, and then only died once to Krauser for the entire rest of the game. That's why everyone said that this remake is probably not needed right out the gate because it really wasn't. Sure all the fancy new cutscenes are fun to look at, but the original plays so much better, that's why if I ever wanted to play 4 I would go straight back to the original.
