TheDeceiver completed Iron Lung
There are worse ways to kill an hour...but what an hour it was! Atmosphere-wise, this game excels. Stuck in a rusty, tin can submarine at the bottom of a blood ocean on a deserted moon in a universe devoid of nearly all life is a premium horror premise. There is so much potential; and yet… The gameplay hinders all said potential! Deciding to seal off the only window and rely on grainy photos for navigation seems like the perfect recipe for forced confrontation with the unknown, not unlike other games such as Fatal Frame. But the major misstep comes with the inclusion of the premarked map. Having the locations marked ultimately zaps most of the horror elements away. There are clear goals and, from the player's perspective, focusing solely on the destination and navigation, the suspense and horror can be ignored. Horror is used loosely. Occasional jump scares and weird noises do not hide that the entire game is spent simply trying to avoid bumping into walls.

What is there to fear in this game? Ultimately, that is what is so frustrating! All the pieces are there! Albeit the grainy photo angle - if that is supposedly horrifying then decades of poor internet connections and cheap cameras helped me build a natural tolerance. But the setting, the ticking-clock element, the sound design; it was nearly an instant classic. Have some faith in players - there is a terminal on the sub that is almost entirely useless. That is the key! Hide some leads there. Mark the first location, let the player get used to the controls, and after they snap the first photo, set off an audio cue and unlock a couple of terminal entries that hint at other locations to go explore. Sprinkle in a few scripted events that require using the camera to problem-solve and this game immediately doubles in entertainment value.

This sounds overly negative, so let me be clear: I enjoyed this game! After I acclimated to the controls I was having a blast! I just was not as scared as I could have been which is a significant strike against a horror title. Piloting the sub and using the grid system on the map was enjoyable. Finding the right angle and position to minimize button presses and efficiently navigate the underwater terrain was satisfying. Blurring portions of the map and forcing the player to use the sensors and the camera to snake through the tunnel was an element that needed to be used more. See! If this game stewed a little longer, it feels like it really would have been something. Not sure if this needed to be out by some arbitrary deadline or if it was a marketing front to secure funding for the movie… Regardless, I still recommend checking it out! I hope more is explored in the theatrical medium, but there is more to offer from this game, dang it, it just needs some more polish and it will be up there with others in the camera-based horror genre!

TheDeceiver abandoned My Hero Ultra Rumble
What a shameless cash grab, nothing burger of a game. While My Hero is no where near my favorite anime, there is still potential to do something interesting with these characters, even in a blatant Fortnite clone. Sadly, Bandai-Namco and Byking Inc. lack any desire to devote precious brain power to creativity and chose to invest in methods to maximize profit with the littlest amount of effort possible.

55 minutes was 50 minutes too long, and over 75% of that time was spent completing the mandatory baby's first battle royale tutorial! While dispensing information to players is important, doing so in a meaningful way is equally vital. Controls were less than optimal and majority of my hits refused to register. The big elephant in the room is that this is constructed in the style of a gacha game - games like this one make me question even liking gaming as a hobby...

You can have some neat interactions utilizing all the different movesets, if you had access to all heros from the START! Having to depend on the lottery and battle passes in such an unpolished game, gatekeeping gameplay elements sealed this game's fate. Do not play this unless you are a huge MHA fan and can look past all jank.
